Chiropractic

Chiropractic is a means of treating physical problems including, but not limited to, back and neck pain, and headaches. Chiropractors manually manipulate (adjust) vertebrae that have become misaligned, because they believe that any misalignment of bones, particularly in the spine, is the basis for a wide variety of ailments, and that when the spinal column is readjusted to restore the normal relationship of one vertebra to another, the energy blocks in the body are eliminated. Chiropractic is believed by many to be the treatment of choice for a variety of lower back problems, and chiropractors are, in fact, the second largest group (after MDs) of primary care health providers in the United States—a 1998 study in JAMA (Journal of the American Medical Association) reported that chiropractors treated more than 11 million adults a year. Although the more than 60,000 chiropractors in practice concentrate mainly on neurological and musculoskeletal diagnosis and treatment, many people often find that a variety of other conditions also respond to chiropractic care.
