Gout is an arthritis condition that produces acute joint pain. Unlike rheumatoid arthritis or osteoarthritis, which in many instances are chronic, gout pain is of a more sporadic nature. It usually occurs in the early morning, eases up during the day, comes back severely at night, and generally lasts about one week. This condition occurs in men 90 to 95 percent of the time, and those over forty are the most vulnerable.
